The Functional Medicine practice is a recent addition to the range of services that I am looking to offer, through the medium of the internet & the online, digital environment. It is still a work in progress, as it requires a great deal of technical know how to get it up and running. Functional Medicine is a cutting edge tool that can be used to get to root of the signs and symptoms that a person is displaying. It uses many of the latest scientific lab tests that are used in modern allopathic medicine, to gather objective evidence of the bodies inner state of health or illness; however, rather then using this information to form a diagnosis and to apply a non- individualised approach to treat the symptoms… i.e. ‘a pill for every ill..;’ functional medicine uses a very precise approach, it is personalised form of medicine, which takes into account individualised genetic factors that may predispose to illness. Functional medicine also looks at the underlying dysfunction, that maybe creating imbalances between all the systems of the body. For example, it tests for imbalances in the microbiome and looks at gut health as a crucial factor in restoring health to the body. It also focuses on the other domains that are part of the whole person. These include lifestyle and environmental factors and spiritual, emotional & psycho- social factors , that maybe influencing and thus affecting the health of the individual.
